The olive tree, officially Olea Europaea, is the oldest cultivated tree known in history. With their silvery foliage, gnarled trunks, and clusters of fragrant white flowers in spring, these distinctive trees are beautiful garden focal points in all seasons. It is a beautiful evergreen tree that brings a Mediterranean touch to your garden or balcony. Olive trees are very hardy, which makes them ideal for colder areas. And of course, the tree also produces real olives!
Care
Olive trees are ideal for any garden. The trees can be planted in pots and placed on the patio, or they can be planted in the ground. Olive trees prefer a sunny location and do not like wet feet. So when the tree is planted in a pot, make sure the pot has holes at the bottom so excess water can drain away. Water the Olea regularly in spring and summer. Pruning is not necessary for now, but is best done in early spring or in the fall (around October). Before the olives grow, the Olea blooms in spring with small creamy white and yellow flowers. The olives can be harvested when they are still green or after they have fully ripened in late fall, depending on how they will be used. Most freshly picked olives (even those that are fully ripe) are very bitter and should be pickled or sun-dried before eating.
